Final Reflection

I think i have sort of completed my goals my writing still isn't at the level i would have wanted to leave this class at. I am glad i took this class because of the essays i wrote for this class such as an analysis essay i never done before. i saw a major improvement  on how i put my ideas on my essay the only downside is that i wasn't able to organize it better. I feel like my goals haven't been completely fulfill. i still have a long way to go, but i wont give up on making my writing stronger. Although i have come out of this class with good strengths such as writing good ideas on paper. i feel like my weakest point in writing is not asking for help. i need to ask for help when i cant do something by myself. i realize that everyone has problems with writing and asking for help doesn't mean my writing is worse. I also need to stop procrastinating on my writing assignments. I should stop procrastinating and not be afraid of success. in the end i feel that writing is still a skill i need to master and i will continue to try to improve it by fixing my weaknesses.

Planning for Revisions

For my portfolio i chose to rewrite my ad analysis essay. My strengths of my ad analysis essay was that i had many good points and i had good attempt at my thesis statement. My weakness of my paper was that my points were all over the place and i didn't organize my ideas. Also i could have had a stronger thesis.

When i revise my essay i will state my thesis more clearly. Once my thesis is clearly stated i can then organize my ideas better to better support my points. i will try to make myself  think about the ad more effectively. I need to think outside the box and make questions to myself. I need to analyze more critically.

I will try to make a connection to my claims , ideas, and points to the text. I will not make myself go off topic and always try to connect my ideas to the text to make myself more trustworthy. i also will add more descriptive details to my essay to make the audience see what i see in the ad.

Analyzing and Writing Arguments

  • i analyzed don't persume to know a pigs mind and in that essay the author used a almost kind of sarcastic tone which made his arguments against chipotle mexican grill seem so obviously right; however, this kind of tone also made me believe that he was telling his audience what to think which might have cause some audience to lose interest in the reading. This taught me that my tone can easily be untrustworthy if i don't connect to my audience right
  • Another thing i notice while analyzing this essay was that the author doesn't just give out his what he is arguing out there. like in his essay he was basically saying he supported factory farming , yet he never really used that word; however this is a problem since he makes it seem like factory farming is a horrible thing since he wont say it himself. this has taught me that i must tell what i am arguing about and include details to not lose my audience.
  • finally i notice how the author used good supporting details to support his arguments. he said that if we go back to farming the old way people might have to pay more for bacon. This taught me that i must use good supporting details that will make me trustworthy and seem like i know what i am talking about.

Thinking Critically About Evidence

Students should not go to college full time and have a side job on the side because it will cause their grades to go down, it may cause stress to students, and will not be able to prioritize.

  • My strongest argument would be that balancing 2 things at once like school and work might not turn out to be a smart thing because it may cause students health problems such as stress. Students might not be able to keep up with the H.W and trying to work at the same time. Some students might even have to pull off an all nighter just to finish a essay they may be working on. By doing so they may feel sleeping during class and wont be paying attention like they should. This will also cause students to get less sleep and might feel like they cant do it anymore they need their sleep and will eventually drop a class. Students are more likely to drop a class if needed to keep up with their daily life, yet students aren't more likely to quit their job.

  • My weakest argument would be that there are some student out there who need a job in order to buy their books and other stuff necessary for them to succeed as students. they might need a job because the FASFA money they are getting now isn't enough to cover all of their studies. Their are also many students who have part time jobs and are OK balancing their student life and their work life. Students might See this as a opportunity to grow and be responsible.

Patterns of Error

  •    The first error i see in my writing so far is that i tend to make a lot of grammar mistakes. i tend to confuse or misspell words. I also forget to put comes before FANBOYS. I also tend to sometimes have some run- on sentences. I can also be wordy by using describing a process by saying "and then", i also use the words "i guess" and even "in my opinion".
  •    Another error i see in my writing would have to be that i don't always make my thesis clear enough. Although sometimes i believe it makes sense, it the end it only makes sense to me. i need to be able to explain my thesis better. I also have a problem with coming up with my own titles. i am not able to make my own titles and usually put anything and ignore it.
  •    Another error i see in my writing would have to be that i am not able to be clear in my paper. i have ideas scatter all over the place. Although it makes sense to me it can be confusing for people who are reading my paper. People usually get confuse when i am talking about something and suddenly move to another point. i need to be more clear on the points i am trying to make. i need to be able to organize my ideas better, so my paper can have a better flow and people can understand it better.

Thinking Critically About Peer Review

The type of peer review we do in class is effective because my peers help me think of stuff i might not be able to find myself. They put good criticism on my paper. Although i might not always agree with the changes, i do always take it into consideration. Peer reviewing others people paper one can always find an error that the writer didn't notice and help them correct it. Peer reviewing has help me a lot in making my papers more understandable to my readers. My strengths in peer reviewing would have to be that i am able to make good corrections on someones paper, but not criticize the writer. My weakness would have to be that sometimes i might not be a good peer reviewer because i might not find a lot of mistakes on a paper, yet i do wanna help the best i can. The way peer review can be improves is if peer review was in smaller groups because i am sometimes not comfortable working in large groups. i am able to speak more clearly if the the group is smaller. I would also like a little more time on peer reviewing but then again the time get now is enough time.
